Line Tracing Worksheets
Fourteen kinds of lines, from simple straight lines to loops. Work through them roughly in order — each one is a little trickier than the last.
Where to start
Best for: Ages 3–5 (preschool) · Time: 5–10 minutes, a few times a week
Begin with the straight lines, then move on to slanted lines, curves, and finally loops and zigzags. Each page is a little harder than the one before, so there is no need to rush.
- Week 1: standing lines and straight lines — the strokes behind letters like L, T and E.
- Week 2: slanted lines and zigzags, which lead into A, V, W and X.
- Week 3: curves, waves and loops — the shapes inside c, o, a and the cursive-style letters.
Tips for tracing lines
- Trace from left to right and from top to bottom, the same directions used for writing.
- Use a thick crayon or triangle pencil for small hands.
- Slip pages into a sheet protector and trace with a dry-erase marker to reuse them.
